Search Historical News and Newspapers on Google
Google has been working on creating partnerships with several newspaper publishers to digitizing print news and make them available online. Today, Google launches an initiative to intensify that effort and make millions of newspaper pages searchable in its news archives.
People can now search for key phrases in old digital newspapers and browse the content (i.e. pictures, headlines, articles and ads), just as they have been doing with print. This will allow accessing original articles from the 1960s or 1970’s, for example.
Although digitizing content is not new as Google has been working with the Washington Post and the New York Times on this via the Google News Archive since 2006, currently, searchers can find even more content due to partnerships Google has forged with Heritage and ProQuest. This effort will continue growing in the future, bringing history article, by article.
